An aspiring parliamentary candidate for the NPP in the Wenchi constituency in the Bono region, Mr. Alfred Ofori Annye has pledged to build a database on graduates from the constituency from the tertiary and pre-tertiary to help them to find spaces for jobs and skills for livelihoods.
He also intends to carry out career development workshops and conferences to assist people to hone their skills and link job seekers to job owners.
Addressing the press in Wenchi after submitting his forms to constituency executives of the party, Mr. Ofori Annye further said he would organise talent hunt meetings to help people discover themselves and turn their talents into jobs and build a database of artisans, both trainers and trainees and seek financial and material support for them.
On education, Mr. Ofori Annye said he would bring voluntary teachers and students together for vacation classes to enable students to perfect their grades for admission to higher institutions. “I would also institute a scholarship scheme to promote excellence in scholarship in the constituency”, he said
Mr. Ofori Annye, who is the Deputy CEO (Operations) of the PBC Limited, also pledged to collaborate with the NHIS office to do free annual NHIS registration for the municipality, supply of farm inputs, organise training sessions for maize, mango, cocoa farmers among others.
He also said the formation of co-operatives among farmers, linking up farmer-based organisations for planning purposes would be on his agenda for the constituency when given the nod as the MP for the area.
The former Brong-Ahafo regional youth organiser and secretary of the NPP, said he would embark on electricity extension and street lighting initiatives and continue with the water projects initiated by former member of parliament for Wenchi, Prof. Gyan Baffour
The aspiring candidate also intends to pursue government initiatives on agriculture for youth and women in the constituency.
Mr. Ofori Annye promised to establish welfare fund to cater for funerals and weddings as part of social interventions for the people in the constituency.
CONTRIBUTIONS TO PARTY
Touting his contributions to the Bono region and Wenchi constituency to back his candidature, Mr. Ofori Annye recounted that as the Youth Employment Coordinator from 2006-2008 at the Sunyani Municipal Assembly, he employed almost 1,500 youths in the various modules of the programme, of which Wenchi was not left out.
“Some of the youths got into direct jobs, and others continued their education and, by doing so, have better jobs today”, he said.
“I have supported many young people in their academic pursuits, some of whom have gotten the chance to study abroad, and I am still doing my best to help others”, added.
According to Mr Ofori Annye, as the regional youth organizer; he groomed many people to become useful to the NPP, some of whom serve the party in the present government in various capacities.
He added that as the regional secretary, he led the NPP regional team to win 20 seats out of 29 seats in the 2016 general elections. He also strengthened the party at the base through good communication, grassroots organisation and training.
As a national council member, he contributed to the decisions of policy formation and reviews for the development of the party nationwide.
“I have supported many young people to find jobs in various disciplines, including the military, police, GRA, customs, immigration, local governments, forestry commission, judicial service, fire service, CAGD and jubilee house”, he said.
On agriculture, Mr. Ofori Annye said he raised seedlings and supplied g agro-inputs, farm tools and equipment for farmers. He has for the past six years donated motor-king, motorbikes, and spraying machines to the best farmers on farmer’s day.
Mr. Ofori Annye has secured transformers for four communities in the constituency, namely Buasu, Akete, Congo and New Mframaso.
The parliamentary aspirant organised a football gala in 2022 for fifty three teams with prizes for the winners in the various categories.
He further assisted in building places of convenience for some communities in the constituency and made donations to the Muslim communities anytime there are festivities in the municipality.
