Mr Elijah Adansi-Bona and Mr. Kwaku Kwarteng, the Municipal Chief Executive for Obuasi and Member of Parliament respectively, have jointly commissioned the Obuasi Artisan Center towards creation of job opportunities for the youth in the constituency.
The project, dubbed the Obuasi Magazine, is expected to serve as an industrial cluster for mechanics and spare parts dealers in Obuasi and beyond.
The project has a well fitted water closet toilet facility and mechanised borehole, with electricity extended to the site that covers several acres of land.
Mr Elijah Adansi-Bonah, the Municipal Chief Executive, explained that the decision to develop the Artisan Center and relocate all the mechanics and spare parts dealers in Obuasi had been in the books of the Assembly for a very long time and decided to invest in it.
He indicated that the Artisan Center would serve as a one-stop shop for vehicle repairs and servicing, as well as the sale of spare parts and further help boost revenue generation of the Assembly, through the collection of tolls and permits.
MP Kwaku Kwarteng said the project lends credence to the industrialisation drive pursued by the government.
He admonished the mechanics to make the place vibrant to attract more people and investors, while opening up the New Biakoyeden community to attract more infrastructural projects.
Mr. James Opoku Apraku, Chairman of Obuasi West Garages Association, commended the Obuasi Municipal Assembly for committing more resources into the project.
He said the site is enough to accommodate more of their members and other mechanics to make it more viable for doing businesses towards improving the socio-economic development of Obuasi and beyond.
