Mr. Kwaku Agyeman Kwarteng, Member of Parliament for the Obuasi West constituency, has supported 12 public schools in the constituency with 1,000 dual desks, to enhance teaching and learning in the jurisdiction.
The desks, which were sourced from the MPs common fund, were presented to the Municipal Education Directorate for onward distribution to the beneficiary schools, in a bid to improve the standard of education.
Mr. Kwarteng explained during the presentation that, he has always supported schools in the constituency with furniture, in his quest to bridge the furniture gaps in schools and that, the presentation of the 1,000 dual desks was in response to a request by the education directorate to fix the furniture challenges facing some public schools in the constituency.
He said he has always put a premium on education hence his prompt response to the request of the directorate.
The Member of Parliament assured that he would continue to supply furniture to schools to ensure that children of school going age are comfortable in their classrooms.
Mr. Kwaku Kwarteng mentioned key interventions he has provided in the education sector, stressing that quality education was the most integral component of development in any society.
He mentioned the rehabilitation of the Apitikooko school, which included computer laboratory and staff common room, the provision of Water and Sanitation Hygiene (WASH) facilities at Kokoteasua School and the Obuasi Complex Schools, and the provision of classroom blocks at Nhyiaeso School as some of key projects he has undertaken over the years.
The former deputy Minister of Finance has promised not to rest on his oars but rather commit more into improving the quality of education in schools in the Obuasi Municipality.
Mr. George Alfred Koomson, the Obuasi Municipal Director of Education, receiving the items, commended the Member of Parliament for the quick response to their needs.
He said the furniture would go a long way to address the desks’ challenges confronting some schools which are hampering effective teaching and learning.
Mr. Koomson assured that the Directorate would liaise with heads of the beneficiary schools to ensure that the furniture are properly maintained.
Jacqueline Asante, headmistress of Kwabena Fori Primary lauded the MP for the various educational interventions rolled out over the years.
She said the desks donated present some sigh of relief to the head of the various schools that have been saddled with the challenges of inadequate furniture.
