The Chairman of the Obuasi Trade Show Consortium, Mr. Aboagye Ohene Adu, has stated that since its inception in 2019, the Trade Show has created more jobs for the people of Obuasi and its environs.
Speaking at the 7th edition of the Show at the Black Park in Obuasi, Mr Aboagye Ohene Adu indicated that “with the Trade Show, we have created jobs for the Obuasi community, created businesses and created money in peoples’ pockets.”
He pointed out that the people of Obuasi have now come to realise that they can survive through trading and added that it is no wonder that many people have become entrepreneurs and are producing a lot of items for sale.
The Consortium Chairman intimated that both Kumasi and Accra have existed all these years because of trade, hence the need for Obuasi to rely on trade to survive beyond mining.
Mr. Aboagye Ohene Adu added that currently most people do not want to rely on AngloGold for jobs, since they can create jobs themselves as a result of the impact of the Trade Show.
The Community Relations Manager of AGA, Mr. Edmund Oduro Agyei, noted that the Trade Show, which is organised in collaboration with the local Assemblies and other partners, is part of the company’s plan to promote trade in Obuasi by bringing all Micro Small Medium Enterprises together under one platform to promote and exhibit their products and services.
“To date, AGA has invested about GHC1.5 million in the Trade Show since its inception and I am happy to announce that we have chalked some significant progressive results,” he added.
In a speech read on his behalf, the Ashanti Regional Manager of Ghana Enterprises Agency, Mr. Thomas Fofie, encouraged all businesses and the unemployed youth to visit the GEA Business Advisory Centres and their Business Resource Centres for support services to enable them grow and expand their businesses.
The Adansihemaa, Nana Amonimaa Dede II, encouraged the entire Adansiman to visit the Trade Show to do business and also help promote trade in Obuasi.
