The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Boamah, has criticised the stance of the Electoral Commission to conduct a re-run of nineteen polling stations of the Ablekuma North and stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will not accept anything save the collation of the results of the remaining three polling stations.
Ballots of the said polling stations are yet to be collated due to disruption of the process on December 7, 2024 that resulted in the destruction of some of the result sheets.
The Lawmaker’s statement comes as a result of Electoral Commission (EC) statement issued on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 by the EC’s Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations, Samuel Tettey.
The said decision was reportedly reached after extended discussions with representatives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
However, the MP for Okaikwei Central,in an interview on Kumasi-based radio station, Silver FM, on Tuesday, with William De Bordes (Loving Cee) emphasised that Dr. Bossman Asare indicated the “three uncollated polling stations” to be the reason why the Returning Officer of Ablekuma North could not declare the elections.
The Okaikwei Central Lawmaker said the entire NPP fraternity was shocked when the said statement was issued by the EC, querying that “what happened in the space of three weeks”, for the EC to make a u-turn on its statement.
Patrick Boamah queried “…or the EC is threatened by utterances made by the Chairman of the NDC, three weeks ago, which threatens the dismissal of the EC leadership…”
The MP noted that the EC’s statements issued vis-a-vis Ablekuma North Constituency elections has been contradictory, stressing that it smacks of “puppeteering” and cautioned the EC as an independent body to be firm in its decision-making, as well as ensuring transparency.
He further urged the EC to collate the remaining polling stations to declare the winner of Ablekuma North parliamentary seat, stressing that whoever would dispute the results could challenge it in the law court.
Patrick Boamah also entreated the EC Chairperson, Mrs Jean Mensa, to do what is right by leaving a legacy and for history to record her as the “bold, firm, fair and fearless ” Commissioner the EC once had.
