New Juaben MCE allays fears of Koforidua traders

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for New Juaben South, Isaac Apau Gyasi, has called on Koforidua traders not to entertain any fear over a planned demolition exercise.

According to the MCE, despite plans to embark on a possible demolition of the current market in an effort to construct a befitting modern market, his office will ensure that a temporary trading    place has been found before the exercise starts.

He gave the assurance when he spoke to The Chronicle in Koforidua recently.

Earlier, traders at Koforidua Zamarama Market had expressed grave concerns over a planned demolition exercise by the Municipal Assembly.

According to the aggrieved traders, the MCE had failed to fulfil his promises of allocating a marketable place for them (traders) before the demolition exercise begins.

They stated that the temporary market should be up to standard to promote business activities and also help generate revenue for the assembly.

Asonaba Kojo Aidoo, Spokesman for the traders, in a petition to the paramount chief for New Juaben, Daasebre Kwaku Boateng III, pleaded with the latter to intervene in the ongoing misunderstanding between the traders and the MCE for peaceful working atmosphere.

In their petition to Daasebre Kwaku Boateng III, the traders said that the MCE had made a verbal agreement to provide shades, electricity, security and place to store their goods before their relocation.

But according to Asonaba Kojo, the MCE had ordered the traders to move from their current location by Friday, May 24, 2024 without providing them with a decent place to trade.

Daasebre Kwaku Boateng III, after the receipt of the petition, assured the traders of his readiness to intervene in the matter.

According to him, traditional leaders’ support towards community development cannot be underestimated hence he would ensure that the relocation of the traders is done peacefully without disputes in the municipality.
