The former Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Joseph Yammin has cautioned that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) risks remaining in opposition for the next four years if the delegates fail to elect the right people to lead the party into the 2024 general elections.
The former Deputy Ashanti Regional minister, who is currently contesting as a National Organiser for NDC, made the statement in an interview with The Chronicle, ın Kumasi.
He said that the NDC delegates are being called upon to determine the future of Ghana and that competence should be the hall mark for consideration, since a wrong choice made by the delegates can dampen the hopes and aspirations of Ghanaians who, he said, are currently waiting anxiously for a change through the next general elections.
To this end, Yammin maintained that the delegates, who are the kingmakers, have an obligation to elect highly dedicated and committed members of the party to stir the affairs of NDC for the next four years.
According to the aspirant, giving the opportunity to leadership of good character and commitment to serve the party at the highest level stands to reinforce hope and enthusiasm among the grassroots and supporters described as the essential base of every political party.
The NDC National Organiser hopeful also reaffirmed the position of his party that going to the Supreme Court for determination would not form part of the party’s discussion in 2025, since as he put it, “NDC is confident of victory at the polling stations”.
This, he said, makes it necessary for the delegates to elect bold and courageous leaders who can inspire hope and provide direction of purpose for the NDC.
He disclosed that his campaign team is so far receiving the needed support among the delegates, thus boosting his hope that he stands the high chance of winning the National Organiser position. According to him, if the reception he receives during his campaign tour is anything to go by, then he can confidently say that he is ahead of the other six contestants with about 70 percent rating.
Yammin is currently touring all the 16 regions and campaigning for support to lead the party as its National Organiser.
He has since rejected claims by a section of the contestants that he is an underdog in the race, stressing that the name Yammin resonates hope for the grassroots who, he said, are buying into his message to deliver victory for the NDC when given the nod to champion the organizational structure of NDC for the next four years.
Joseph Yammin is contesting for the position alongside six other candidates, including; the incumbent National Organiser, Joshua Hamidu Akamba, the Deputy National Organiser, Chief Hamilton Nixon, Solomon Nkansah, Sidii Abubakar Musah, Henry Osei Akoto and Madhdi Gibril.
