Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed optimism that 2024 remained a victory campaign after the party had successfully done the presidential and parliamentary primaries.
According to him, the NDC was vigorously doing whatever it could to ensure that, no constituency was left without a parliamentary candidate.
Dr. Amoakohene disclosed this after the vetting of parliamentary aspirants for four constituencies, namely, Adansi, Asokwa, Fomena and Mampong at the regional party office.
They have since been cleared to contest the primaries in September 2, 2023.
He is of the view that, considering the danger that was awaiting the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) after their presidential and parliamentary primaries, he believed that, the NDC was in good standing to form the next government after the 2024 General Elections.
According to him, considering the current happenings in the NPP, nothing showed they would go to the 2024 elections with a united front, since so much apathy was going on, adding that the situation could bring about their downfall.
He stated that, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had already disappointed Ghanaians, the Ashanti Region was the most disappointed considering the votes the party gained in the region, yet it could not boast of any monumental project as compared to former President John Dramani Mahama, who was the candidate for the NDC going into the 2024 elections.
According to him, when it came to the achievements of former President Mahama in the Ashanti Region, one could make mention of Kejetia Market and other satellite markets in Kumasi, with a number of hospitals, Community Health and Planning Services (CHPS) compounds, clinics and a number of E-Blocks schools, which, he said, had created opportunities for employment for the youth.
The Ashanti Regional Secretary believed that former President Mahama was bound to beat any of the 10 presidential aspirants of the NPP, and explained that the NDC had provided an avenue and space for employment, but the NPP, in the over six years, had not even erected a structure for employment, an indication that the NDC would win the 2024 elections.
