A former Secretary of the defunct Kumasi Metropolitan Central Coordinating Committee of Workplace CDRs, Nana Nanabanyin Ninsin-Imbeah II, has said the biggest tribute the National Democratic Congress (NDC) could pay to the late Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings was to revitalise the party he founded on the pillars of Probity and Accountability.
The ardent cadre of the Rawlings stock said it was now time for the NDC to do away with old faces and inject new blood into the party in order to revitalise it.
He has, therefore, suggested, in a statement, that Comrades Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo and Johnson Aseidu Nketsia, both aspiring to be elected National Chairman of the NDC, must give way to other aspirants.
According to the ex-Chief, Messrs Ofosu-Ampofo and Asiedu Nketia had stayed in office for too long, and should step aside for other aspirants like Nii Armah Ashitey and Samuel Yaw Adusei, former Greater Accra Regional Minister and Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister respectively, to hold office and share their experiences.
The two are accused of deliberately charging exorbitant fees for nomination forms by aspirants, thus creating the environment for John Dramani Mahama to assert his influence, since he alone could meet the requirements and mobilise money to pay for all the candidates, something Nana Ninsin-Imbeah condemns and said does not ensure a level playing field for contestants.
Nana Ninsin-Imbeah bemoaned the practice and said if not checked could push the party into a ‘One Man’ affair.
He said it was time for the party to work against moves to entrench corruption and others vices the late Founder stood against.
Expressing his views on the occasion of the Second Anniversary of the demise of the late Ghanaian President, Nana Ninsin-Imbeah II said it was sad that Elvis Afriyie Ankra, the former Minister for Sports who was removed from office for the reckless and unreasonable expenditure made on behalf of the national football team in Brazil, could openly attack the late Mr.
Rawlings and still feel proud to aspire to the office of General Secretary of the NDC, founded by the late former President Rawlings and some upright and sincere cadres.
He has, therefore, called on delegates to ensure that such persons who had worked against the principles and tradition of the NDC were not given any positions of trust.
Under the circumstance, Nana Ninsin-Imbeah has mentioned that a former Minister, Fiifi Kwetey, and Peter Boamah Otukonor, the Deputy General Secretary, should be considered for the position of the General Secretary of the NDC at the impending elections.
He said a change at the Chairmanship and General Secretary races would reviltalise the party and serve the aspirations of members, and Ghanaians in general.
The Senior Cadre noted that the NDC was gradually becoming a conduit pipe for siphoning monies into money bags, while virtuous, selfless, upright and courageous men and women had turned into back benchers.
“NDC, which used to be the people’s party, is currently under the influence of money, compromising the spirit and principle of integrity,” he said.
