NDC beats war drum in A/R, accuses NPP of deploying 200 fake soldiers into region

The National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Joseph Yamin has accused the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) of deploying 200 fake military officers into the Ashanti region to ostensibly rig the general election.

The NDC national organiser alleged that these fake soldiers had been deployed to thirty-five constituencies in the region, courtesy NPP regional and constituency executives, adding that they are being driven in unregistered Nissan Navara wheels in the region.

Addressing a news conference at the Ashanti regional NDC office, Yamin, alleged that on December 5, 2024, the NDC picked signals that the NPP had deployed 200 fake military officer into the region for electoral malpractices, a development he emphasised the NDC will fight with their “last blood” if the NPP dares to rig the elections in the Ashanti region.

“We would like to send a word of caution to the NPP that we have everything that they have planned to do on election day, every step they have taken, the ballot boxes that have been brought into this region,” he warned. “We are going to confront this situation with the last drop of our blood, if these people they have brought try anything stupid, as far as the laws governing the elections are concerned, then I am sure this time round, some other countries will come to Ghana for peace keeping duties.”

Challenging the authenticity of these officers, Yamin argued that deployment of these officers are bereft of military standard of operations.

“The military have their own vehicle and every military officer that is deployed is supposed to be deployed in a military vehicle. Why are these 200 people brought into the constituencies with private vehicles that are not registered?“ He asked “What is the business of these officers deployed from Accra into the region.”

According to Joseph Yamin, if indeed these officers are professional military, they should know their way through, because before the military get to work, they do what is known as reconnaissance to understand the situation before they deploy, but these officers are being led into the constituencies by the NPP executives.

In a direct message to the military high command, the NDC told the Chief of Defence Staff the military uniforms that were respected in the years gone by, are being destroyed under this administration, adding that the image of the Ghana armed forces has been reduced and people do not respect the GAF anymore.

Taking a solace in an assertion made by Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare, concerning security arrangement on election day, Joseph Yamin told the media:

“The IGP has told us they have enough men to handle the security, I am a barracks boy and I know that in every election, the military is on standby and they do not in any way have any role to play in our electoral system.
