Lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, a Senior Partner of the Sermans Consult and head of the Corporate/Commercial and Litigation department of the firm, yesterday garnered a whopping 376 votes out the 537 valid votes cast to emerge winner of the Manhyia South NPP primary, held at the St Louis Demonstration School at Ash Town in Kumasi.
Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah is in active practice as a Corporate and Commercial Barrister and Solicitor in Ghana.
He was called to the Bar and admitted to the Solicitors’ roll of the Republic of Ghana in 2010, two years after being called to the Bar of England and Wales.
His closest contender, Nana Owusu Afriyie Prempeh, who is Napo’s brother, polled 141 votes while Nana Akwasi Coker Gyambibi and James Owusu Boakye trailed with two and seven votes respectively.
The delegates comprised mainly polling station executives, electoral area coordinators, council of elders, patrons and constituency executives.
The poll, which was peaceful throughout the five hour exercise, under heavy police presence, was supervised by the Electoral Commission.
The Manhyia South constituency primary was necessitated by the selection of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the sitting Member of Parliament as the running mate to NPP’s flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Lawyer Baffour Awuah, who happens to be Napo’s counsel, in a post election address, dedicated his victory to Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, his mentor in politics.
The Parliamentary candidate urged constituents to intensify campaigns and rally behind the NPP presidential ticket to enable the NPP to retain power.
He thanked the other contestants who have all conceded defeat and pledged to work to ensure victory by the NPP in the December General elections.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako alias Chairman Wontumi thanked the Election Committee, the contestants, the police and the media.
He said with the primary over, the party’s focus is the December elections and called on party members and supporters to embark on a vigorous campaign to win the impending elections massively to break “the 8”.
