The Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), Irene Naa Torshie Addo, has concluded her campaign tour of all the 34 constituencies in the Greater Accra Region. In the various communities that she visited, she called on the electorate to vote massively for the flagbearer of the New Patriot Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Naa Torshie wants Bawumia elected as the first Muslim president of Ghana.
The DACF Administrator distributed clothes among other items to the needy during the tour and reminded voters of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s corrupt-free and scandal-free track record and his readiness to lead the country to greater heights.
“We are bringing to you Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, someone that the Lord has set aside and preserved for Ghana. This is a person who has no scandal attached to his name. He has never been implicated in any corrupt practices, nor has he insulted anyone.”
The former Tema West Member of Parliament further reiterated that great strides had been made by the NPP government to strengthen the post COVID economy of Ghana, and that Ghanaians needed Dr. Bawumia with his astute leadership in Economics and Finance to continue.
Touching on religious tolerance, Naa Torshie prompted Ghanaians that the Ghana’s Constitution was for all citizens, not just Christians and that every person born in Ghana by birth, forty years and above and of sound mind fits to be president regardless of their religious affiliation.
“If you say you are a Christian and so you cannot vote for a Muslim to be president, then you are not practicing Christianity,” She said and stressed that “we should focus on the intentions of the person who wants to lead the country”.
She further indicated that Dr. Bawumia engages and relates so well with Christians and that he would be a president for all without distinction.
To buttress her point, Naa Torshie said that even England, a Christian country that introduced Christianity to Ghana had a Prime Minister called Rishi Sunak, who was a Hindu.
“What matters most is a leader that has the interest of the people at heart and ready to serve and lead with integrity and make things happen for the people”, she urged.
Naa Torshie also encouraged citizens to reject religious intolerance and embrace all leaders, regardless of their faith.
“Using the example of a medical emergency, she pointed out that no one asks for blood from a specific religion when in need.
“When you visit the hospital and you need blood, the blood you are given is not branded as a Christian or a Muslim”, she said, stressing that divisions based on religion should not influence the choice of president in the coming elections.
In all the constituencies visited, the DACF Administrator urged voters to focus on electing a leader with the wisdom and courage to advance Ghana, citing the Free Senior High School (SHS) program as an example of bold leadership of the NPP government.
She said “the courage to implement Free SHS came from Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia and that kind of courage is rare.”
She said we need a visionary leader like Dr. Bawumia who will take bold initiatives like empowering the youth for digital economy to accelerate development and economic growth of Ghana.
She advised Ghanaians to think beyond their immediate needs, explaining that it is best to secure the future, as decisions made today would impact future generations.
