Mrs Rose Meda Donkor Ofei-Asare has taken over as President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of African Assistance Plan (AAP), a faith-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), registered in Ghana and the United States of America.
Prophet David Donkor, Founder of the AAP, officially handed over the NGO to her first daughter at a thanksgiving ceremony which celebrated the life and achievements of the Bishop in the church and community development in Ghana held in Sunyani.
The AAP owns and operates the Rose New Life Preparatory School in Nsuta and Twimia, both located in the Techiman Municipality in the Bono East Region.
Mission
The mission of the NGO is ‘that Ghana Might be saved.’ To this end, the organisation works with individuals and communities to help improve the well-being of people in need of the Gospel of Jesus Christ by offering Christ centered education.
Other Projects
In addition to the two schools, AAP also supports a Christian radio station in Sunyani, JLife FM, a Bible College, and church planting.
WASH project
The AAP also launched a Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) project to complement the government’s efforts towards proper waste and sanitation management in the Bono Region.
Addressing the media shortly after taking over as the CEO of the organisation, Mrs Ofei-Asare said the project would bring together churches and collaborate with key stakeholders to improve sanitation in the region and beyond. “The project will be using the pulpit for intensified public education on proper waste management and sanitation.”
She explained that as key partners of development, there was the need for churches and religious bodies to contribute and support the government to build the nation.
Mrs Ofei-Asare further added that aside the spiritual development of people, God had placed enormous tasks and responsibilities on churches to ensure that people lived in good environments, saying, cleanliness was next to Godliness. “We will embark on a series of crusades and use the pulpit to propagate issues on sanitation, and also organise regular clean up exercises to make Sunyani clean,” she said.
Mrs Offei-Asare, therefore, called on District and Municipal assemblies, churches, traditional authorities, and corporate bodies to support the campaign to achieve desirable outcomes.
She expressed discomfort about the poor sanitation situation in the Sunyani Municipality, saying, the AAP and relevant authorities would team up to help address the problem.
She advised the residents against indiscriminate dumping of refuse and plastic waste to avoid an outbreak of communicable diseases.
