The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Tarkwa Nsuaem constituency, George Mireku Duker has commissioned and handed over a 20-seater Water Closet toilet facility to the chief and people of Brahabebome, a suburb of Tarkwa.
The facility, which was handed over during last weekend, has a separate borehole and polytank that supplies water for use.
The project, estimated at a cost of GH₡852,000.00 was started in October 2022 and completed in less than a year.
The source of funding for the facility was generated from the Mineral Development Fund (MDF).
Local Chairman for MDF, Isaac Nuamah, said there was open and competitive bidding for the building of the facility.
Three contractors, he said, bid for the contract and in the end, the committee, made up of chiefs and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) settled on Dextor Company for the execution of the project.
Commissioning the project, the MP and Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, George Mireku Duker, recounted the pressure mounted on him by the chief of the area to get the facility for the community. This was after the chief had provided free land for the project.
MP Duker was happy that in the end he has been able to lobby to get the MDF pay for the project and same completed.
Nana Kwesi Ansah, chief of Brahabebome, expressed his delight over the completion and handing over of the facility.
Having assumed the stool in 1996, Nana Kwesi Ansah indicated that the area had not had public toilet facility until the sitting MP initiated the present facility.
Describing the situation as regrettable, Nana Kwesi Ansah pointed out that it has been difficult moment for residents of Brahabebome to live without public toilet for the last 25 years.
He expressed his heartfelt appreciation to Mireku Duker for executing the facility for them. He promised, however, to make sure the facility was put into good use for the good of the people.
