Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, has emphasised that developing the region required collective effort and unity. He has, therefore, urged the citizenry to join hands in driving the progress of the region.
Speaking at the inaugural “Walk with the Honourable Regional Minister” event, themed “Healthy People, Wealthy Region,” the Minister rallied thousands, promoting a shared vision for regional development.
The inaugural ‘Walk with the Honourable Regional Minister’ event was successfully held, thanks to the collaboration between the Western Regional Coordinating Council and the Western Regional Office of the National Sports Authority, an initiative spearheaded by Regional Minister Joseph Nelson himself.
The 10.3-kilometer walk commenced at the Takoradi Mall traversed major streets in Sekondi Takoradi and concluded at the Sekondi Gyandu Park.
The event drew MMDCEs from the region’s 14 assemblies, parliamentarians and other dignitaries.
Following the walk, a professionally led aerobics session, featuring former Black Stars player, Stephen Baidoo, took place at the Gyandu Park turf.
Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson explained that the initiative aimed to provide a platform for the entire Western Region to unite and collectively strive for a better future, promoting unity and regional development.
“We’re doing this to demonstrate that Western Region’s development is our collective responsibility. Unity is key, and we must work together, hand in hand, every step of the way.
“By doing so, we’ll shift focus from complaining about what’s lacking and instead drive progress. This isn’t a partisan initiative; it’s a Western Region program, uniting us all,” he said.
Other dignitaries who joined the event emphasised that ‘Health is Wealth’ which motivated them to lend their support and encourage community members to participate in the walk.
Dickson Kuah, Municipal Chief Executive for Nzema East shared his experience: “I couldn’t recall the last time I engaged in such exercise. The Regional Minister’s initiative brought us together, fostering unity among us. Participating in this activity has been beneficial for all of us.”
Ebenezer Cobbinah, Municipal Chief Executive for Tarkwa-Nsuaem added that “When we unite, the development of the Western Region is guaranteed.”
Lawyer Philip Fiifi Buckman, Member of Parliament for Kwesimintsim Constituency, echoed the call for Western Region’s development, emphasising the importance of collective effort.
“The key takeaway is that we must put aside partisan differences and unite as one people to drive development in our region,” he added.
Sophia Aubynn, MCE for Mpohor said “It’s heartening to see the enthusiasm we’ve started with. If we maintain this unity, our region’s progress is assured.
“We’re not focused on political parties, but rather the region’s best interests. United, we can achieve anything we set our minds to.”
