The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South Constituency, in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has provided pieces of furniture for the Serwaa Nyarko Senior High School’s Science Laboratory.
The set of furniture comprised 25 tables, 100 stools and two shelves to equip the school’s Biology, Physics and Chemistry laboratories.
Last Friday’s donation, held at the forecourt of the school was meant to help with research and practical works by the Science students in the School.
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as ‘Napo’, who is also the Minister for Energy, had previously assisted the school by way of computers, desks and other logistics.
In his interaction with the students, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh disclosed that during his tenure as the Minister of Education, he planned an expansion by extending the boundaries of the school.
Responding to pleas for infrastructure development to address the challenge, the MP promised a Complex facility to address the challenges of lack of assembly hall and a befitting dining hall.
He pledged his continuous support to the school and announced that plans are far advanced to make Serwaa Nyarko SHS a model girls’ school and one of the best schools in the country.
“I want to make Serwaa Nyarko SHS the second best school after Prempeh College”, he teased.
The MP said the best investment is to give priority to girl child education, stressing that the objective of the Free Senior High School policy is to ensure that everybody is privileged to access education and get out of poverty.
The headmistress of the school, Mrs. Esther Gyasi Sarpong, thanked the MP for the donation and called for support to address the challenges facing the school.
