Kofi Owusu, the family head of the late highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has been fined two sheep by the Manhyia Palace following the invocation of the Great Oath of the Asantehene by the musician’s sister, Ernestina Akosua Bimpomaa.

The incident occurred during a court hearing on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, in a case filed by Akosua Serwaa, the first wife of the late musician, Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, challenging who should be recognised as his lawful spouse.

After the court proceedings, Daddy Lumba’s sister, Ernestina Akosua Bimpomaa, invoked the Great Oath (Ntam Kɛseɛ), which compelled the case to be referred to the Manhyia Palace for traditional adjudication, as required by Asante custom and tradition.

At the hearing presided over by the Saamanhene and other chiefs at the Manhyia Palace, Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu was fined two sheep for failing to counter the invocation of the Great Oath by the late musician’s sister.

Tradition dictates that these sheep are handed over to the Palace, where they will be used in purification rites.

These rituals, performed by the chiefs, are believed to neutralise the spiritual effects of invoking the Great Oath and protect all parties from supernatural consequences.

“Cases involving the Great Oath must be resolved at the Manhyia Palace, as courts are not empowered to handle them,” the chiefs reaffirmed during the hearing.

The ongoing legal battle has drawn significant public attention due to Daddy Lumba’s legendary status in Ghana’s music scene.
