A 29-year-old mobile phone dealer, Daniel Omane, has died from severe injuries sustained in an acid attack allegedly carried out by his girlfriend, Madam Vera Akosua Asare, at Effiduase, a suburb of Koforidua, in the Eastern Region.

The incident occurred in February, after what authorities described as a turbulent relationship marked by jealousy and accusations of infidelity.

According to police reports, Vera Akosua Asare allegedly attacked Omane while he was asleep, pouring acid on him in a suspected act of revenge.

Daniel Omane suffered extensive burns and was initially rushed to the Eastern Regional Hospital, where he received emergency treatment and underwent multiple skin graft surgeries, but due to the severity of his injuries, he was transferred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, where he had been receiving care, until he passed away last Friday.

Prior to the attack, the couple lived together with their two-year-old daughter.

Vera Asare was arrested shortly after the incident and initially remanded in custody, but was later granted bail to enable her to care for their child while the case remained under investigation.

Following Omane’s death, the Effiduase District Police Command has rearrested Vera Akosua Asare.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has since visited Korle Bu to obtain the autopsy report as they prepare to press fresh charges of murder.

Police say the case will soon be refiled in court and that investigations are ongoing to ensure justice is served.
