Kwame Owusu, 20 and a driver, has been admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢300,000.00 for allegedly stealing items valued at GH¢270,000 from a construction company.
He was granted bail by an Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Evelyn Asamoah, on Friday.
The accused’s bail condition was to be executed by four sureties, two to be justified by moveable or immovable property at the value of the amount.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge and is scheduled to reappear before the court on June 5, 2023.
Facts
Reading the facts of the case to the court, Chief Inspector Benson Benneh said the complaint in the case is Teye Joseph Tettey, who is the Assistant Transport Officer of Construction Ambassador Company.
According to him, on May 7, 2023, Frank Asare, a witness in this case, assisted by Chief Inspector George Inkoom of Jubilee House, arrested and brought to the Manet Police Station Kwame Owusu and reported that at about 12:45am on that same the accused was caught stealing an unspecified number of metal pipes scaffolds belonging to the company.
The accused was detained to assist in investigations, during which it was established that Owusu had stolen 500 pieces of six metres metal pipe scaffolds valued at GH¢190,000, 240 pieces of three metal pipe scaffolds valued at GH¢52,800, and 20 sets of brand new metal pipe scaffolds valued at GH¢30,000.00, all to the tune of GH¢272,800.00.
The accused allegedly admitted to the offence in his statement and told the police that he had sold the items to one Alhassan, a scrap dealer.
The court was told that efforts made by the police to apprehend Alhassan proved futile.
After investigations he was charged and put before the court.
