The campaign trails of the two leading presidential candidates is getting interesting, as Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who doubles as flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has stated that former President John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has no record to ride on to the presidency.
Addressing a rally at Nyinahin, in the Atwima Mponua District yesterday, Dr Bawumia, who is on a two-weeks tour of the Ashanti region, said Mahama had once occupied the highest office of the land, but has no record when it comes to achievements to show Ghanaians.
“Mahama has been a president before and he should show us a single policy that he introduced during his tenure as president or vice president.”
According to Bawumia, having served as vice president of Ghana under president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, he has thirty-three achievements under his name, but the same cannot be said of John Dramani Mahama.
“If you ask me of my records as a vice president, I would be able to name thirty-three different policies that I have introduced in Ghana and they are operational.
“Someone has thirty-three policies and you have zero, and yet you want to be voted for. Have you heard of such a story before,” he asked the gathering.
According to him, if politics was like football, he would have thrashed Mahama by thirty-three goals to nil.
“Had it been football, I would have scored Mahama thirty-three to zero. You want to come back? …Aaaa! we won’t allow you to come back.
He subsequently appealed to residents of Atwima Mponua to vote for him in the upcoming polls.
“Please vote massively for me and all the challenges, including bad roads will be addressed. Leave everything to me and I will work for you. You can all attest to my stewardship”, he said.
According to Bawumia, he had performed better than all the vice presidents who have served Ghana.
“In the annals of vice presidents who have served Ghana, no one has performed better than Dr. Bawumia. Give me the steering wheel as the driver of the car,” he told the crowd.
