Mahama Appoints 8-Member Committee to oversee National Education Forum

In line with his commitment to improving education in Ghana, President John Dramani Mahama has appointed an eight-member committee to organise the National Education Forum.

This initiative fulfills a key pledge to engage stakeholders in shaping the country’s educational policies.

The committee, chaired by former Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Professor George K.T. Oduro, has been given two weeks to submit its report and strategic plan.

Other members include Professor Goski Alabi, Professor Rosemary Bosu, Dr. Samuel Awuku and Professor Smile Dzisi, alongside Kofi Asare, Stephen Owusu and Inusah Shiraz.

In a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu (MP), Acting Spokesperson to the President, the committee’s Terms of Reference (TOR) include;

  1. Developing a theme and sub-themes to guide stakeholder discussions.
  2. Identifying key stakeholders such as students, parents, teachers (both pre-tertiary and tertiary, including private institutions), researchers, civil society organizations, development partners, religious bodies, political parties, Ghanaian education experts in the diaspora, chiefs, heads of educational institutions, and the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education to participate in the forum.
  3. Designing a stakeholder activity agenda, incorporating breakout sessions and plenaries.
  4. Proposing a venue and dates for the event.
  5. Establishing a secretariat to document proceedings.
  6. Preparing a budget for the forum.
  7. Compiling a detailed report with key findings and recommendations.
  8. Drafting a national education policy framework and proposing an action plan for implementing recommendations within three weeks of the forum’s conclusion.
  9. Addressing any other relevant issues for the successful organization of the event.
