Last season’s champions Liverpool host Bournemouth in the opening fixtures of the English Premier League at Anfield tomorrow evening.
Both teams are heavyweights in the league and meetings between them have produced some humiliating outcome over the years. The Reds have won 11 out of their last 12 encounters, with only a 1-0 away loss in March 2023 interrupting their run.
Fresh off their title-winning campaign, Liverpool will be eager to start the new season on a strong note under head coach Arne Slot, who won the league in his debut season and now aims to replicate that success.
Arne Slot, the head coach of Liverpool, oversaw a busy summer focused on building squad depth to enhance the team’s overall performance.
Players like Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giorgi Mamaradashvili, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike have shown great promise since joining the team this summer.
Liverpool was impressive last season and many pundits tick them to be in the top four and even ending up winning the league.
Liverpool have not lost on the opening day of the league in 12 consecutive seasons, the longest current streak in the league. Their last home defeat on opening day dates back to 2003-04 against Chelsea.
Finishing 9th last season, Andoni Iraola and his boys would be looking forward to better their last season stats and even make it into the top 4. With the signing of players like Bafode Diakite, Djordje Petrovic and Adrien Truffert would boast the performance of the team.
Liverpool will be confident of extending their strong opening-day record and reasserting their title credentials early. However, if Bournemouth can stay disciplined and strike on the counter, they might just surprise the Anfield faithful.
