The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has strongly condemned the recent attack on members of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) during an operation at Bronikrom near Hwidiem in the Ahafo Region.

The assault, which occurred on Saturday, November 1, 2025, reportedly involved a violent confrontation between illegal miners and the NAIMOS taskforce, allegedly instigated by local political figures.

In an official statement, Mr. Buah said he had been fully briefed on the incident and described it as “unfortunate and unacceptable.”

“The Ministry has taken serious note of the attack on NAIMOS personnel during an operation at Bronikrom near Hwidiem. I strongly condemn the act and any attempt to undermine the work of the anti-illegal mining taskforce,” the statement read.

The Minister disclosed that he has since held meetings with the Speaker of Parliament and the Minister for the Interior to ensure swift and rigorous investigations into the matter.

According to him, government remains committed to identifying and prosecuting all individuals who aid, support, or facilitate illegal mining activities, which continue to destroy Ghana’s environment.

“This is in line with government’s commitment to bring to book all perpetrators who aid, support, or front the continuous decimation of the environment,” the Minister emphasized.

The statement comes amid growing public outrage and calls from civil society for accountability following the reported attack on the NAIMOS Director of Operations and his team during an anti-illegal mining mission in Hwidiem.
