A Circuit Court in Accra, presided over by Isaac Addo, has sentenced a 24-year-old labourer, Benjamin Kwabena Fiagbodzi, to five years of imprisonment with hard labour.
He was convicted of causing harm, contrary to Section 69 of the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). The case was as a result of a violent incident on September 4, 2024 at Tse-Addo, La.
According to the court, Fiagbodzi intentionally and unlawfully inflicted serious injuries on the complainant, Laryea Larkwei, a businessman residing in Teshie Camp 2.
The complainant, Mr. Larkwei, had hired one Osei Yaw in 2020 to serve as a caretaker for his uncompleted five-bedroom house at Tse-Addo. Yaw, in turn, allowed Fiagbodzi to live at the property.
On the day of the incident, Mr. Larkwei visited the residence and requested Fiagbodzi to grind pepper for him. Fiagbodzi complied.
However, while Larkwei was eating, Fiagbodzi, without provocation, armed himself with a sharp cutlass and attacked the businessman, inflicting deep cuts on his scalp.
The injured, Larkwei, bleeding profusely, reported the matter to the police and was issued a medical form.
He received treatment at the LEKMA Hospital, where medical officers confirmed the severity of his injuries.
During the police investigation, Fiagbodzi admitted to the crime in his caution statement.
Officers retrieved the cutlass used in the attack from the scene as evidence.
Following the investigation, Fiagbodzi was charged and brought before the court.
