Sixty-two-year-old Mr Isaac Kwabena Sarkodie from Atobiase, emerged the Adansi South District Best Farmer at the 40th National Farmers Day held at Atobiase.
For his prize Mr. Sarkodie was presented with a Motorised Tricycle (Aboboyaa) and many Agricultural equipment and inputs.
Nineteen others, including two physically challenged persons and an agriculture extension officer were also honoured.
The District Chief Executive, Mr. Francis Kwabena Ankomah, paid glowing tribute to the award winners at the ceremony and encouraged them to work hard to win national awards in the years ahead.
He expressed his appreciation to the residents of Atobiase for accepting to host the programme and also went further to flood the durbar grounds with a variety of foodstuffs.
Mr. Ankomah cautioned farmers in the district against using their wards who should be in school on their farms, noting that child labour would not be tolerated in the district.
The District Director of Agriculture, Mr. Alfred David Mensah, encouraged farmers to continue to work with the Department of Agriculture for transformation in their farming businesses.
He called for the posting of more Agriculture Extension officers to the district to replace those who go on retirement, so as to overcome the many challenges facing farmers.
The Adontenhene of Ayaase, Nana Debrah Ababio, who chaired the function advised farmers to heed to the advice from the Agriculture officers to enable them do away with some of the outmoded farming practices.
