The Kumasi Nursing and Midwifery Training College has admitted about 709 fresh students to pursue Nursing and Midwifery programmes at the College.
Mrs Juana Owusu Danso, Principal of the College, disclosed that the current population of the College is over 1000 yet the same infrastructure has been in place for the past 75 years.
She stressed the need to expand infrastructure, including the classrooms and accommodation to address infrastructural deficits.
She disclosed that the school has acquired a piece of land at Kotwe to build classrooms, Lecture Halls, Hostels and Auditorium under its expansion programme and appealed to the government through the Ministry of Health and the general public to come to their aid in cash or kind, to develop the site to enable them move some of the students there.
Mrs Owusu Danso said the school is currently running two programmes in Nursing and Midwifery and would add more students, with additional programmes like post basic programmes on completion of the new site.
Nana Boakye Yam, Chief of Nkwantakese and Special Guest of Honour reminded the matriculants of the purpose for which they have been admitted to the school and the need to defy social conventions to achieve their aim of becoming a nurse.
Ms. Georgina Efua Sam, the chairperson commended the matriculants for gaining admission to the school saying they were selected on merit and must take their studies seriously.
She tasked them to be determined to serve humanity with dedication and commitment to serve others to make a difference.
