Mr Samuel Pyne, the Mayor of Kumasi, has visited the French Line section of the Kumasi Central Market, which was gutted by fire last Sunday night.
The raging fire caused significant damage to shops which deal in clothes, phones, locally-made sandals, medicinal products and wholesale salt outlets.
The fire is reported to have started around 7am on Sunday, leaving shop owners struggling to save their properties.
Whilst some of the shop owners were able to salvage a few of their merchandise, many of them lost their entire inventory and suffered huge losses.
The cause of the fire outbreak still remains unknown, with investigations on-going by the Ghana National Fire Service.
Some of the victims who spoke with the media expressed worry over the late response of the Fire Service personnel, who arrived almost an hour after the fire outbreak.
According to them, in spite of the arrival of about four fire tenders and firefighters, they struggled to bring the blaze under control, after extensive damage had been caused.
The Mayor, upon inspection of the scene, assured them of the Assembly’s readiness to support them and entreated the victims to patiently wait for the Ghana National Fire Service to ascertain the cause of the fire.
He urged them to tread cautiously in their operations, especially during the dry season.
The KMA boss cautioned those who had embarked on reconstruction of their structures to avoid creating obstacles in the way of fire fighters in future occurrence.
