The Boys & Girls Club of Ghana, Anomabo, in partnership with the Kobbah Acquah Foundation, has rewarded some outstanding teachers in its partner schools in the Central Region.
The maiden awards ceremony, which was held at Anomabo, was to celebrate teachers for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to effective teaching to improve the quality of education in the Club’s catchment areas.
The nominees were drawn from the Anomabo/Yamoransa Circuits in the Mfantseman Municipality in the Central Region of Ghana, based on their skills in communication, listening, adaptability, empathy and patience.
The event was fully sponsored by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO of Kobbah Acquah Foundation, Mr. Emmanuel Acquah, who is also the Special Advisor to the Director of BGCGA.
Rationale behind awards
Explaining the rationale behind the initiative to The Chronicle, the CEO of Kobbah Acquah Foundation stated that it formed part of his vision to advance education in the area.
He said: “My aim is to help improve the delivery of quality education in our communities, especially in the Mfantseman Municipality, but we cannot improve education without the teachers.”
“So we needed to motivate the teachers so that they can also teach our children well, and this is why I tried to sponsor this awards as a way to inspire the teachers in our area so that they can teach better,” he added.
He called on others to come on board and support in order to sustain the event and make it an annual scheme where teachers in the municipality would be encouraged and appreciated through awards.
Awardees
A teacher at Anomabo Methodist Basic School ‘B’, Mr. James Kwesi Prah, who was adjudged the KoAF Most Outstanding Teacher for the year 2022, received an amount of GH¢12,000.00.
Mr. Isaac Anyan of Ekurabadze Catholic Basic School and Miss Rebecca Ampah, a teacher at the Biriwa Methodist Basic School ‘B’, took up the first and second runner up positions respectively.
For their respective prizes, Mr. Anyan received an amount of GH¢10,000.00, while Miss Rebecca Ampah took away a cash prize of GH¢8,000.00.
Lower Primary/Kindergarten category
Three teachers who excelled at the Lower Primary, Kindergarten, Upper Primary and Junior High School levels were rewarded with cash prize of GH¢5,000.00 each.
They were Mrs. Christina Tetteh, a teacher from the Saltpond Lower Town M/A Basic School, Mrs. Dorcas Abaidoo Wilson of the Amissakurom/Akroful Catholic M/A Basic School and Mr Moses Evans Eshun of Mampong Methodist M/A Basic School.
Seven other teachers who made it to the final stage of the selection process of the KoAF Most Outstanding Teacher’s award 2022, were given GH¢1,000.00 each as consolation prize.
Meritorious awards
Some individuals who have been dedicated and committed to rendering praiseworthy services to the club and their respective communities, were given meritorious awards.
A teacher at the Biriwa Methodist Basic School B, Ms Rebecca Ampah won the 2022 World Federation of Youth Clubs Promise Awards for Leadership Pioneer.
She received an amount of $250.00 as cash prize while Very Rev. Samuel Anderson Quainoo, received the Aged Volunteer Award and cash prize of GH¢1,000.00.
Messrs Anthony Sampson, Assistant Headmaster, Saltpond Methodist SHS received a Citation of honour (Mentoring & Coaching) and Isaac Kweku Quainoo, head teacher, Saltpond Lower Town M/A Basic School ‘A’ and a director for BGCGA, was given a Citation of Honour (Volunteering & Leadership).
