King Charles welcomes Asantehene to Sandringham House

British Monarch, Prince Charles, received Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at his Sandringham House, UK, during a private visit by the former.

In a message shared on X, formerly Twitter, by the official X handle of the Royal Family, it disclosed that the visit of the Ghanaian King, forms part of the Silver Jubilee celebration of Opemsuo.

“The King Welcomes The Asantehene – Ruler of the Kingdom of Ashanti in Ghana – to Sandringham House. His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is currently in the UK as part of his Silver Jubilee celebrations,” the British Royal Family stated.

Sandringham House, standing at the heart of the 8,000-hectare Sandringham Estate, is the private country retreat of King Charles III and The Queen Consort.

It is perhaps most widely known for the Royals’ Christmas morning walk, where they greet the public en route to the St Mary Magdalene Church.

It is a country house in the parish of Sandringham, Norfolk, England. It is one of the royal residences of Charles III, whose grandfather, George VI and great-grandfather, George V, both died there. The house stands in a 20,000-acre estate in the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

In this visit, it is expected that the two influential leaders will address issues such as climate change and democracy among others.

Also, it is expected that the Ghanaian King will make a pronouncement on the release of stolen Ashanti artefacts to Ashanti Kingdom on lease by the British Government.

Early this year, the Manhyia Palace announced the Silver Jubilee celebration of the Ashanti monarch.

The week-long anniversary celebration was anchored by the Planning Committee, headed by Juabenhene, Nana Otuo Sereboe II, to give all persons the chance to celebrate with His Majesty, without recourse to social status.

Churches, different ethnic groups, students, businessmen and many others were given their turn with the Otumfuo.

The whole celebration was climaxed on Sunday, May 12, 2024 with a durbar at the Dwabrem Grounds of the Manhyia Palace, with thousands of people in attendance.

Among the dignitaries who attended were; President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Prime Minister for Trinidad and Tobago, Dr Keith Rowley, his wife, Mrs Sharon Rowley, the Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Second Lady, H.E Samira Bawumia, the Awomefia of Anlo State, Togbe Siri II and Ga Mantse Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru.

Since Asantehene ascended the Golden Stool, he has contributed numerously to the development of Ghana.

Key among them are; Restoring peace to Dagbon and the subsequent enskinment of an overlord for the people of Dagbon in the troubled area.

Moreover, Opemsuo, as soon as he became Ashanti King introduced Education Fund, which aims to support needy but brilliant students in Ashanti and Ghana at large.

In 2018, the Ashanti King mediated in a riot which ensued at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, following a protest by the students, which ended in the destruction of school properties.

There was also an intervention by the Golden Stool Occupant with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for Ghana to have access to credit for a bailout during the erstwhile administration of John Dramani Mahama.

As a visionary King, in 2019, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II unveiled a 10-year development plan for Kumasi.
