KATH to be transformed under $10m facility -thanks to Otumfuo  

All is set for the implementation of a proposed $10 million “Heal Komfo Anokye Project”.

The project is the vision of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, for the implementation of the management of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, headed by Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah, the Chief Executive Officer.

Recommendations based on observations in the mechanical, plumbing and electrical fittings at the facility have been made to address findings by a project committee.

Nana Prof. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei Woahene II, Hiahene and founder of Foundation of Orthopaedics and Complex Spine (FOCOS), who also doubles as the Board Chairman of Otumfuo Charity Foundation is Otumfuo’s representative on the project team.

The objective of the project is basically to improve recovery time of patients, healthcare delivery and addressing the messy situation at the wards and premises towards a friendlier environment.

As a result, specialist sub-contractors would be engaged to implement the project to give the 70- year-old health facility a major facelift involving the renovation of the blocks, popularly referred to as “Blocks A, B, C and D”.

The project is expected to be executed as part of the legacy projects marking the 25th Anniversary celebration of the enstoolment of the Asantehene, next year.

Mr. Samuel Adu-Boakye, Chairman of the “Heal Komfo Anokye Project” said two model wards would be completed by May 2024.

He also said a revolving fund would be instituted aside the $10 million earmarked for the project for maintenance.

Architect Kojo Darko-Asante, the lead architect for the team, said the proposal for the project was meticulously put together by a team of technical and engineering experts after a painstaking assessment of the wards.

He said the project would transform wards at the hospital into a world-class patient-friendly-facility when successfully executed.
