Black Stars defender Jonas Adjetey has expressed his excitement after claiming his maiden trophy as a professional footballer.
The 21-year-old Ghanaian centre-back played a pivotal role in helping the Swiss giants secure their first league title in seven years, as well as the cup, completing an impressive domestic double.
These two trophies were the first of Adjetey’s professional career, and he had to remain patient to achieve this milestone.
In a one-on-one interview with 3Sports, the Black Stars stopper expressed his elation over winning the league and cup double with Basel.
“For me, it’s meant so much for me because this is my first trophy. We jubilated after the Lugano game. Almost all the players came to the dressing room. We celebrated with the fans. During that week we had like two celebrations.”
The former Berekum Chelsea’s defender 2024/25 season with FC Basel has been nothing short of phenomenal, marking a significant turning point in his professional career.
Adjetey’s journey to becoming a key player for Basel has been remarkable. After starting just 11 league games in the previous campaign, he dramatically increased his involvement, featuring in a whopping 32 Swiss Super League matches during the 2024/25 season.
His defensive contributions have been impressive, showcasing strong tackling, interceptions and aerial ability, making him a reliable figure at the heart of Basel’s defence.
