The New Patriotic Party (NPP) aspiring parliamentary candidate for the Ablekuma Central Constituency, Jefferson Sackey, has offered interest-free loans to women of his party in the constituency.
Jefferson Sackey, who is a Deputy Director of Communications at the Presidency, has allocated some GHC100,000 to undertake the initiative.
The loan, according to the Ablekuma Central parliamentary candidate aspirant, aims at empowering women financially in the constituency.
These women will benefit from the soft loans, which ranges from GHC500 to GHC1000.
It would be administered through the Jefferson Sackey Women’s Empowerment Fund.
Speaking at the launch of the Fund, Jefferson Sackey said he decided to embark on the initiative because of requests he received during his engagement with constituents.
He said, “In my round every day, many people come to me, especially women, asking for financial help to invest in their businesses. Some even ask for as little as GHC100.”
He added that, “After some days of thinking, I decided to set up this Fund to help empower these women financially.”
Jefferson Sackey, aside from the soft loans, has initiated a number of programmes within the constituency.
These include the registration of NPP supporters onto the National Health Insurance Scheme and the distribution of books to schools within the Ablekuma Central Constituency.
Jefferson Sackey will this year pick forms to contest the NPP Parliamentary primaries in the Ablekuma Central Constituency ahead of the 2024 elections.
