Residents of Trom, a town in the New Juaben South Municipality of the Eastern Region, are still searching for answers following the alleged killing of 23-year old Felicia Abena Oparibea by her jealous boyfriend.
The Chronicle gathered that Godwin Darko, 25, on Saturday visited the late girlfriend after the deceased, who hailed from Koforidua-Betom, relocated to Trom about a year ago to hide from the suspect, after he allegedly threatened her when she decided to break up with him.
A co-tenant of the late Oparibea, who spoke with this reporter on condition of anonymity, averred that the deceased met the suspect outside the house on that fateful day, and later brought him to her room.
She told this reporter that there was a naming ceremony taking place in the house on that day, and nobody paid attention to the two young adults after they entered Oparibea’s room.
On the blind side of the tenants and other merrymakers after the naming ceremony, Darko allegedly attacked the late Oparibea in the room, pushed a piece of cloth into her mouth, before stabbing and cutting her throat without anyone noticing due to the noise in the house.
Darko, who appears to have rehearsed the hideous crime, scaled over the wall, threw away the knife with blood stains, before absconding.
He later reported himself to the police while wearing a red T-shirt with the inscription “Rest in Peace” at the back.
Police investigators visited the crime scene, and after inventories retrieved the body, which was lying in a pool of blood and sent it to the Koforidua Regional Hospital Morgue.
On Sunday afternoon, but for the alertness of police personnel, Darko would have been lynched by family members of the late Oparibea after he was brought to the crime scene to search for the knife used to commit the act, and conduct further investigations.
The police, upon sensing danger, whisked the suspect into a waiting taxi and fled the scene.
Opanin Kwasi Appiah, father of the deceased, was on Sunday in uncontrollable tears after he visited the house where the incident occurred.
