Ivan Quashigah appointed Chairman of new NFA Board

Film maker Ivan Quashigah has been appointed as the Chairman of the newly inaugurated Board of the Ghana National Film Authority (NFA).

His appointment, made by the President in accordance with the Development and Classification of Film Act (Act 935), places him at the helm of the board tasked with regulating, promoting and supporting Ghana’s film industry.

The inauguration was done on Monday, August 4, 2025.

The National Film Authority, established in 2016 under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, oversees the classification of films, industry regulation, and advocacy for filmmakers.

Quashigah, founder and Chief Executive Officer of Farmhouse Productions, is one of Ghana’s most celebrated creative minds. Trained in directing and scriptwriting at the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI), he also holds an Executive Master’s degree in Governance and Leadership from Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

His career spans decades of groundbreaking work, including producing and directing the highly acclaimed youth television series Things We Do for Love and Yolo (You Only Live Once), among a litany of other film and television productions. Yolo dominated the 2016 Ghana Movie Awards, winning seven out of eight nominations, while Quashigah has earned more than 18 international and local accolades, including recognition at FESPACO for Best Short Feature.

As Chairman, Quashigah is expected to lead the board of the Authority in tandem with the Executive Secretary, to advance its mission to improve industry standards, champion Ghanaian storytelling and enhance the country’s presence on the global film stage.
