Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris on Monday, countered claims by some foreign individuals alleging Christian genocide in Nigeria.
DAILY POST reports that some lawmakers and religious freedom fighters in the United States recently claimed that Christians are being persecuted in Nigeria.
Rep Riley M. Moore of the US Congress and Senator Ted Cruz had on different occasions made moves towards designating Nigeria as Country of Particular Concerns, CPC over the alleged genocide.
However, addressing the matter in his keynote address at the National Unveiling of the World Public Relations Forum, WPRF, Abuja 2026, with the theme, “Responsible Communication: The Voice of the World”, the Minister countered the claims, saying there was no iota of truth in the claim.
He described the moves by the US lawmakers as “propaganda externally woven” to weaken the country’s unity.
“We must come to terms with existential reputational threats to our national brand, in which external purveyors of untruth are mischaracterising our nation as a destination for a so-called persecution of people based on their religious faiths.
“This is propaganda externally woven by those who want to weaken our unity. For the umpteenth time, I am emphatic that there’s no iota of truth in the claim of a ‘Christian Genocide’ in Nigeria.
“I therefore urge us to use the instruments of public relations, crafted in truths and facts, to vehemently reject these despicable single narratives about Nigeria”, the Minister said.
The Minister also pointed out that Nigeria is assuming a leadership role on the global stage of professional communication, as the country hots the World Public Relations Forum 2026,
