Israeli jets have bombed targets across Lebanon, including the capital Beirut, for a seventh day. Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati said that intense attacks may have forced up to a million people to flee their homes in possibly the “worst displacement crisis” in the country’s history.
The Israeli military said in a statement on Sunday that its warplanes struck Hezbollah targets, including rocket launchers and weapons storage facilities. Earlier, the military said it had carried out dozens of air raids across Lebanon two days after the assassination of the group’s leader Hassan Nasrallah in a southern Beirut suburb.
At least 11 people were killed in an air raid on a house in the town of Ain in the Bekaa Valley in the northeast, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency.
The Israeli military also announced on Sunday the killing of Nabil Kaouk, another high-ranking Hezbollah official, a day after the Lebanese armed group confirmed Nasrallah’s assassination in the southern Beirut suburb of Dahiyeh on Friday. Hezbollah also confirmed Kaouk’s killing on Sunday.
The killing of several top Hezbollah commanders in recent weeks has dealt a huge blow to the group engaged in cross-border fighting with Israel since last October. The Lebanese armed group started firing rockets at Israel in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. The group has set a ceasefire in Gaza as a condition to stop its cross-border attacks.
