Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has declared a 24-hour curfew on Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State with effect from 3pm on Wednesday.
This was contained in a statement on Wednesday by the Technical Advisor to the Governor on Media, Publicity and Strategic Communication, Solomon Iorpev.
He said the curfew was imposed because of the grave security situation in the region that has led to the wanton destruction of property leading to instability in the area.
According to the statement, “The governor, through his Deputy, Dr Sam Ode, has directed that” beginning today, 3rd July, 2024 a curfew be imposed on Ukum Local Government and environs beginning from 3pm to 3pm of tomorrow 4th July 2024.
” The curfew shall be observed from 6pm to 6am beginning from tomorrow 4th of July 2024 until further notice.”
He noted that the Governor has called for calm as security operatives have been deployed in their numbers to keep the peace in Ukum in particular and the Sankera region at large.
