COA Research & Manufacturing Limited Company (COA-RMLC) has warned the public against patronising herbal remedies on the market, claiming to have similar active ingredients as COA.
Professor Samuel Ato Duncan, President General of COA-RMLC, says these herbal remedies are a hoax, as he is the only one who has the formula of the COA family – COA Mixture, COA plus and COA MT.
Addressing a press conference in Accra on Friday, Prof Duncan said unscrupulous herbal remedies manufacturers have adopted a strategy to ride on the back of COA-RMLC to sell their products.
The founder of COA-RMLC stated emphatically that he has not trained anyone or have apprentices who have understudied him over the years to replicate the formula of COA products.
“Let me be abundantly clear: the COA formula is unique and highly confidential. Only one individual has complete knowledge of the production process. The formula has never been shared with any third party,” she stressed.
Prof Duncan said even though these manufacturers claim their products are like COA products, he cannot guarantee public safety in consuming them.
He said it takes years of research, dedication and clinical trials to produce a single product to give the public the necessary health requirements and well-being.
One of the ways these unscrupulous alternative medication manufacturers and retailers deceive the public was to increase the price of COA products unreasonable and when the customer contest, hence lured to consider an alternative.
“We were informed of instances where individuals are exploiting the COA brand to promote and sell their products. These individuals approach our customers, claiming their products mirror the benefits of COA Mixture,” he lamented.
Despite the precarious economic situation and high inflation rate in the country, COA-RMLC since its official registration in 2016, has maintained and sustained the retail of its products.
The public were entreated not to buy COA mixture beyond GH¢100.00, COA Plus Mixture, GH¢200 and COA MT, GH¢60.00.The public were urged not to consume COA mixture and COA Plus Mixture at the same time but can take either of them with COA MT, which is for malaria treatment.
Princess Duncan, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of COA-RMLC underscores how these illegal activities are affecting their brand.
She said the these activities have overreaching consequences on the company and the country as a whole. Princess urged their customers to stand their grounds and not to accept any alternative being offered.
