It was a nightmarish experience for some residents of Ntonsua and Nine (9) Miles in the Amansie Central District of Ashanti region, when they woke up last Wednesday to the stunning news of galamseyers having dug up the middle of the road to mine gold.
On their way to Obuasi for their routine commercial activities at dawn on the fateful day, they found out that a deep pit had been created in the middle of the road.
The Chronicle gathered that a driver, who was said to be driving at top speed, had difficulty applying his brakes to save the passengers from imminent death from the handiwork of ‘galamseyers.
The Ntonsua Odikro, Nana Alex Abu, throwing more light on the incident said a hunter who had gone for a hunting expedition came face to face with three young men neck deep in the act of digging in the middle section of the road for gold and with the help of a gun was able to arrest one of them while the rest bolted away.
The Odikro said with the assistance of the assemblyman of Ntonsua, the suspect was brought to the Obuasi police.
Some drivers at the scene told The Chronicle that they will need a full truck load of walls from the mines to fill the dug up hole. They urged the police to pursue the other two who are on the run, to face the law.
