Dr Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, has disclosed that about 618 projects across the region have stalled.

He said records available to him indicate the said stalled projects at various stages of completion are dotted across the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

According to him, the projects are funded by GNPC, District Assemblies Common Fund, GetFund and other state institutions.

The Minister, courting the support of the media for his developmental agenda in the region, assured residents in the region of his readiness and commitment to remind the various institutions executing the projects to be completed within time.

This, he continued, would help in the realisation of the President’s vision for the region.

The Minister has also issued a two-week ultimatum to illegal miners operating in forest reserves and water bodies within the region to vacate these areas or face law.

According to him, the directive forms part of the government’s ongoing efforts to combat illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, which has led to widespread environmental degradation, including deforestation and pollution of our water bodies, including the destruction of farmlands.

His directive on illegal mining reinforces the government’s resolve to restore Ghana’s natural resources and ensure long-term environmental sustainability.

Dr. Amoakohene reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to protecting the environment and ensuring sustainable development.

He stressed that illegal mining poses a serious threat to the livelihoods of many Ghanaians and must be tackled head on.
