The Ghana Police Service is experiencing renewed confidence and operational momentum under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, whose tenure has been marked by decisive action, discipline and visible results.

Affectionately referred to within the Service as “The Turnaround Tiger,” Mr Yohuno is credited with restoring morale and purpose among officers through a combination of firm leadership, recognition of merit and a clear commitment to professionalism.

One of the hallmarks of his leadership has been the prioritisation of promotions and welfare. Officers who have demonstrated bravery, diligence and commitment are increasingly being recognised, addressing longstanding concerns about stalled or delayed advancement within the Service.

According to senior officers, the IGP has taken deliberate steps to correct anomalies and ensure fairness in promotions.

Anchored on the principle of “Service Above Self,” IGP Yohuno’s leadership style has resonated strongly with personnel, particularly younger officers.

Many cite his own rise through the ranks as evidence that discipline, hard work and integrity remain the surest paths to progress in the Service.

Operationally, the Police Service has recorded notable successes, particularly in intelligence-led policing and the fight against organised and cross-border crime.

Recent high-profile operations have reinforced public confidence and sent a strong signal to criminal networks.

Among these were arrests in Ashaiman, an area once informally labelled for criminal notoriety, linked to the November 2, 2024 daylight robbery and killing at a gold dealership in Adabraka, Accra.

In another major operation on January 21, 2026 officers intercepted a consignment of compressed substances suspected to be cocaine along the Accra–Aflao Transcontinental Highway, reportedly rejecting a US$20,000 bribe offered to compromise the operation.

The Service has also recorded progress in curbing highway robberies and dismantling criminal syndicates, contributing to improved public safety across key transport corridors.

“These operations send a clear message that Ghana is no longer a safe haven for criminal activity,” a senior police source noted.

The IGP’s emphasis on intelligence-driven operations and inter-agency collaboration is said to be yielding dividends, with several more operations currently underway.

Officers describe a renewed sense of accountability, with clear expectations and consequences, as well as recognition for exceptional performance.

Community policing has also received renewed attention, strengthening trust between law enforcement and the public, while reinforcing crime prevention at the grassroots level.

With results increasingly visible and morale on the rise, many within the Service believe the current leadership has laid a strong foundation for sustained reform.

As Ghana’s security landscape continues to evolve, IGP Yohuno’s tenure is shaping up as one defined by resolve, professionalism and a shared commitment to building a safer nation, a charge the men and women of the Ghana Police Service appear ready to carry forward.
