The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Opemsuo Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia Palace, at the start of his working visit to the Ashanti region.
He led the Police Management Board (POMAB) to the Manhyia Palace on Friday, to brief the Ashanti King on some security measures the Police Administration has put in place.
The delegation, which comprised COP Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, Director-General (Administration); COP Mr. Paul Manly Awini, Director-General in charge of the National Patrol Department and ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of the Public Affairs Directorate, wished the Asantehene well for the year, which incidentally marks the 25th anniversary of his enstoolment on the Golden Stool.
Dr. Akuffo Dampare expressed his gratitude to Otumfuo and assured him that the police will continue to work to ensure the safety of all the citizenry.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu on his part commended the Inspector-General of Police for promoting growth of the Police service and working to change the image of the police and public perception of the police service.
Opemsuo Osei Tutu noted that the IGP has, since assumption of office, endeared the Police Service to members of the public, for the more public friendly measures they have adopted.
“I want to commend you for the good work you are doing with your team. Since you assumed office, I feel the presence of the Police in our lives, our homes and everywhere, and we are grateful”, Otumfuo said.
The King particularly mentioned for commendation the visibility and accessibility concept of the Police, which was evident during the Christmas festivities, where a number of motorbikes were seen patrolling almost every space of the region and Kumasi in particular, to ensure the safety of residents.
The Asantehene described as beautiful pictures and videos of officers patrolling the city on motorbikes and mentioned the absence of armed robbery cases and road crashes during Christmas, as it used to be the case previously.
Otumfuo encouraged the IGP to continue the good work and assured him of his prayers and support. He also advised the IGP not to allow the workload of the office and its challenges to affect his personality.
