I don’t trust Mahama but rather believe in him –Medikal

Rapper Medikal has expressed his belief in President elect John Mahama to change the fortunes of the country, even though he has stated that he does not trust him.

In a tweet on December 9 after NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Bawumia has conceded defeat, the ‘Omo Ada’ hitmaker urged John Mahama to prioritise the welfare of the Ghanaian youth when sworn into office.

“Let it be known to the incoming president, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama that, I do not trust him but rather believe in him. Let this new change be exhibited drastically! If not for anything, he should foresee the generation of Sharaf, ‘a good friend of mine (His Son) and the betterment of the youth in Ghana and beyond. Thank you,” he said.

Recall that in September 2021, the police arrested Medikal for brandishing a gun in a video posted on social media. He was later charged for unlawful display of arms and ammunition.

Medikal had initially pleaded not guilty to the charge when he made his first appearances in court, but the court refused him bail.

Recounting his ordeal in the tweet, Medikal linked the incident to the NPP government claiming that his arrest was without a tangible reason. He stated that when his lawyers followed up on the matter, they were told “it was an order from above.”

“NPP arrested me for no tangible reason, NPP put me in cells, locked me up in jail (Ankaful Maximum security prison) all in the name of power. My lawyers tried to communicate with superiors and all they got in response was ‘it’s an order from above’,” he tweeted.

The rapper was later remanded into police custody for five days. When he reappeared before the court on October 26 2021, the judge granted him a ¢100,000 bail.

John Mahama was officially declared winner of the 2024 Presidential election on December 9, 2024. Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa in declaring the results said the NDC’s flagbearer won the election with 56.55% surpassing Dr. Bawumia’s 41.6%.
