Justice John Nyadu Nyante, presiding judge at the High Court in Accra, has issued a stern warning to the media and members of the public over extrajudicial commentary on the ongoing criminal trial involving former National Signal Bureau (NSB) Director Kwabena Adu-Boahene and three others.
The judge, who is overseeing The Republic v. Kwabena Adu-Boahene & 3 Others, expressed his displeasure at what he described as inappropriate media reportage related to the proceedings.
Without citing specific media outlets or publications, Justice Nyante cautioned that although he has chosen to overlook the issue for now, he will not hesitate to take action should such conduct persist.
“This is the last time I will let this slide,” Justice Nyante said during today’s court session. “Even though I am old, I still take time to go on social media and see what is being said.”
He warned that any further prejudicial comments, whether from media professionals or individuals, could attract legal consequences. “I will not hesitate to invite anyone who passes prejudicial commentary on this case,” he stated firmly.
The trial, which has attracted considerable public and media attention due to the profile of the accused and the nature of the charges, has already sparked intense public discourse. The judge’s warning is seen as an effort to preserve the integrity of the judicial process and prevent trial by media.
Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the former NSB chief, is facing charges alongside three others including his wife, Angela Adjei Boateng in a case that continues to unfold at the High Court.
