Black Stars forward Inaki Williams has expressed how happy he is with his teammates finding him in goal scoring opportunities.
He said this after scoring his sixth goal of the 2023-2024 La Liga season to pace Athletic Bilbao in the goal scoring category for the burgeoning campaign. Williams’ goal came in a 1-1 draw with Girona.
In the 67th minute, 29-year-old Williams run to meet Oihan Sanchet’s fine pass and proceed to slot into the net after a fine but quick buildup from deep from Bilbao.
The draw moves Bilbao to fifth place in the 20 team La Liga standings and even in the face of a tough time scoring goals for Ghana, Inaki has been in fine form in front of goal for his club.
“I was able to have good control with my left foot…helping the team with a goal is always good. Yes I am very happy the team is finding me. People trust me. I will try to continue like this. I will try to help the team with goals and assists.”
Williams scored his debut Black Stars goal in Ghana’s 1-0 win over Madagascar in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Many Black Stars observers have pointed to a disconnect between Williams and the Black Stars midfield and attacking line as the reason for his poor production in front of goal.
In several Black Stars games, Williams is often seen making several runs behind defenders but the balls aren’t played to him on most occasions.
