A group calling itself the National Identifiable group of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has reminded the party hierarchy and National Executives of the need for reformation in the party.
The group has also called for sanctions, where necessary, against the rank and file of the party.
They urged the National Council, National Executive Committee and Council of Elders to open doors to internal reforms, since the party’s future depends not on repeating the past but on transformation based on bold, honest restructuring exercise.
Mohammed Issah, aka Malam Issah, Chairman of the group, at a press conference disclosed that the Group is a coalition of loyal, independent-minded members across the country and expressed the need for the party leadership and other stakeholders to, as a matter of urgency, re-examine the activities and performance of the party, following the defeat at the 2024 general elections.
He stressed the group’s determination to help the reformation of the party to reclaim its dignity in the face of the electorate.
The group, he said, is against the imposition of leaders at all levels of organisation from polling station to National Executives.
The group also recommended a bottom-up transparent process where all members participate meaningfully in selecting party leaders, including the flagbearer.
He also cautioned against compromising the Party Album, which normally side-lines a lot of the members through questionable alterations.
The group also recommended a thorough, decentralised audit of the album to ensure accuracy, fairness and inclusiveness, while considering an expansion of the Electoral College.
According to the leader of the group, a small electoral college is vulnerable to manipulation and recommended the expansion of the voting base to include a broader representation of constituents and grassroots.
The group proposed the abolition of the delegates system because it has become synonymous with vote-buying and political coercion.
They have further recommended the establishment of impartial internal Electoral Commission with independent observers to ensure fairness.
Muhammad Issah expressed the need to respect mandates of Elected Officers, because encroachments on the roles of elected officers undermine organisational integrity.
The group wants institutional discipline enforced and allow national and regional officers to function without interference and called for the eradication of favouritism by party functionaries to ensure fairness.
