The Ghana Rubber Estates Limited (GREL) has provided community water to the people of Bamiankor in the Nzema East Municipality. The project has a capacity of supplying 20,000 litres of water daily and has since been commissioned at a short ceremony at Bamiankor.
The project, which cost GHC230,000 is part GREL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of assisting communities in its catchment areas, to access potable water supply.
The water project for the Bamiankor community comes less than three months after a similar one was handed over to the Apemanim community in the Ahanta West Municipality.
Mr. Perry Acheampong, Corporate Affairs Manager at GREL said the project formed part of his outfit’s commitment to uplifting the lives of people in the communities where they operate.
“GREL operates across 93 communities and our core value of respect for all has always guided our business philosophy.
“For us, Corporate Social Responsibility is not a slogan, but a responsibility to ensure fairness, inclusion and mutual growth in the communities that give us the space and support to thrive”.
He acknowledged that GREL’s success as a business entity depended on the well-being of their host communities who should live in dignity and meet their basic needs.
“This water project is, therefore, a symbol of our shared journey where the prosperity of GREL goes hand in hand with the well-being of Bamiankor”.
The Corporate Affairs Manager thanked the people of Bamiankor for their cooperation and trust and asked them to maintain the project well and use responsibly.
Awulae Angama-Tu Agyan, Paramount Chief of Gwira Traditional area, thanked GREL for the water project, saying it would save his subjects from trekking long distances in search of potable water.
He mentioned other social intervention projects initiated by GREL in the Gwira traditional area, which include the construction of the Anobil school block, toilet facility at Bamiankor and scholarship package for Senior High School beneficiaries.
Additionally, the Rubber Company also built Teachers’ Quarters and has been organisng free vacation classes for school pupils.
Awulae Angama-Tu Agyan, however, used the occasion to appeal to GREL to consider absorbing school leavers in the area for internship programmes and national service to acquire employable skills.
Nana Kwesi Agyemang, Paramount Chief of Lower Dixcove Traditional Area, who is the Chairman of the Association of Chiefs on whose land GREL operates (ACLANGO) reminded the people to put their differences aside and embrace projects by GREL.
He said clean water cleansed the body from ailments and asked the community to take good care of the water facility.
Nana Kwesi Agyemang IX appealed to out-growers to sell their raw rubber products to GREL to enable them increase productivity.
