The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has launched an investigation into an allegation that a Customs Officer at the Accra International Airport collected GH¢600 from a passenger without issuing a receipt.

The allegation was made by a TikTok content creator, Lady Rev. Adwoa Pretty, in a video circulating on social media.

According to the GRA, it has taken note of the video and has commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the alleged payment.

The Authority said it would update the public on its findings once the investigation was completed.

“The Ghana Revenue Authority has taken note of a video circulating on social media by a TikToker called Lady Rev. Adwoa Pretty. In the video, she alleges that a Customs Officer stationed at the Accra International Airport collected GH¢600 from her without issuing a receipt,” the GRA said in a statement.

The Authority did not disclose the identity of the officer or provide further details about the circumstances surrounding the alleged transaction.

The GRA said the investigation was part of its commitment to maintaining integrity, accountability and professionalism in the discharge of its mandate.

It assured the public that the outcome of the investigation would be communicated when the process was completed.

The allegation comes amid public scrutiny of interactions between Customs officers and travellers at the country’s main international gateway, where officers are responsible for enforcing customs and revenue laws.

The GRA urged the public to await the outcome of its investigation rather than draw conclusions before the facts had been established.
