The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Henry Quartey, says the decision to relocate Abossey Okai Spare parts dealers from their current location came from the traders themselves and that the relocation exercise will be done in phases.
According to him, the spare parts dealers admitted that their present location cannot contain all the members hence the support the government is offering to help boost their business activities. He told a meeting of journalists at his residence in Accra recently that the spare parts dealers would not regret when they finally move to their new location because all the facilities that will make their businesses flourish would be provided.
The regional minister who also spoke on education, sanitation and water management, health, security and war on indiscipline further told the journalists that the 80-acre land formerly occupied by the onion traders at Agbogbloshie has been reclaimed after the relocation of the traders to Adjin Kotoku.
According to the minister, Agbogbloshie was described by Wikipedia as one of the filthiest places in the world, but the situation is not the same today – because of the extraordinary work his outfit has done in the area.
Quartey, popularly known as ‘Accra Commando’ appealed to the public to ignore claims that himself and members of the Regional Security Council have shared among themselves, the reclaimed land at Agbogbloshie.
He, however, admitted that 15 acres of the reclaimed land have been given to the government to construct one of the Agenda 111 Hospitals in Accra. On security, he indicated that 10,000 street lights had been procured and installed and that they are in the process of procuring additional 20,000 bulbs for installation in Accra.
