The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has led the commissioning of some 80 educational projects across the country. The commissioning took place on Thursday, November 21, 2024 in parts of the country, all of which were telecast live.
In the Korle Klottey constituency of the Greater Accra region, the President commissioned the rehabilitated 6-unit classroom block of the Saint Barnabas Anglican School, located at Osu, Accra.
For six decades, the school had not been renovated, a situation that cut across some of the projects commissioned, apart from those built from the scratch.
“As we open the doors to this newly renovated school, we are opening the doors to opportunity, hope and a brighter future,” President Akufo-Addo remarked.
The President indicated that the schools had been equipped with modern facilities designed to meet the demands of 21st century education.
He added that, “These are not just classrooms with new paint and ceilings; they are spaces of possibility where dreams are nurtured and talents discovered.”
Looking into the future, President Akufo-Addo said he is full of hope that every Ghanaian child would continue to have access to the resources and opportunities they deserve.
He commended the Minister for Education, Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, for his leadership in transforming education.
He also commended the contractors, engineers, assembly members, teachers and parents for their dedication to the projects.

POSSIBLE
In his address, Dr. Adutwum stated that the projects commissioned were symbols of possibility.
He remarked that like South Korea, Ghana has started STEM education in efforts to transform the nation.
“What you see is just a symbol of what is possible in our nation. Now we are doing STEM in Ghana, 50 years behind South Korea, but the good news is that we have begun, so when we say transformation, we are not thinking at the edges; we are talking about major things. We are changing things entirely. Education is seeing great transformation,” he emphasised.
MAINTENANCE
Minister Osei Yaw Adutwum called for proper maintenance culture for all the newly constructed blocks.
“Maintenance culture has always been an issue in the country and so we have recruited about 50 facility managers who will be sent to the various SHSs to check the proper maintenance of the projects.
“They will report directly to the heads. The GETFUND projects will also make provisions for maintenance to ensure the projects are well taken care of,” he said.
